Project 4 - Visual Sequential Narrative - Progress

Here is my progress work so far. 

This story itself should be apparent. A masked man shooting a flag a burns it. In the original story, this action was a declaration of war towards the government who were being oppressive and abusing their power. This can be relatable to the real world and the various amount of protest going on today. 


Here is started outlining and adding color. I've been using pen for outlining and shading, permanent markers for shadows and saturation, and sharpie creative markers to color in and colored pencils for texture. It is my first time doing anything like this so there was a bit of a learning curve in the first image. In the second one, you can see it looks a bit smoother.

Project 1- Fantasy Appliance - Work in Progress

 I have had a bit of struggle trying to fill in my tracing with gradient so I still have to work on that.  So far, I have traced the main piece. I used the top of the lantern and handle from the pepper crusher into one. I plan on adding shadows of people in the small gaps towards the top.  My inspiration as soon as I put these two together was the book called "Tender is the flesh". To those who have read it, you know it definitely is a choice. The main point of the story is food scarcity and the desperate measures was cannibalism. The disconnection or empathy in the beginning was very impactful for me. So I want to make a piece inspired by that disconnection.  This image of the factory will probably be in some part of the image, towards the bottom. I also have in mind to add conveyer belts using the arms of the lanterns and manipulating them to the right angles. I will try to figure out the issue I am having with gradient and will post an updated image soon.

Project 5 - Animated Gif - Final

 And finally here is my final gif that I animated. It is a navigator with a compass looking at their next destination.  Yes. I hate myself apparently. The final frame took me about 3 days cause of the insane amount of detail and mistakes for not creating multiple layers but I got there. Ever since seeing the architecture of the island, I knew I wanted to draw the island, and this was the perfect opportunity. For my first time, I feel like I did really good. I experimented with the brush a lot and used about all of them in the final frame. My water is watering and my clouds are condensing. For the timeline, I played around with timing to make seem as natural as possible.

 Here is my final piece for the Fantasy Appliance Project. It is mostly for interpretation when seeing it but I was inspired by the book "Tender is the Flesh" by Agustina Bazterria. I wanted to implement the industrial feeling the beginning of the book where there was a disconnection between humans and those who are not considered human but flesh.
